How FOXO4-DRI Was Discovered

The story of FOXO4-DRI begins with researchers trying to understand why senescent cells refuse to die. In healthy cells, a protein called p53 acts as the body's cellular quality control officer — when DNA damage gets too severe, p53 triggers apoptosis, essentially telling the cell to shut itself down for the greater good.
